Infographic: How Titanium Micro Smart Protection Network keeps us safe in Facebook

I just found this infographic made by Titanium. It seems some security vendors start to create their products for social media sites. Those security products are meant to protect users from security threats that target Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, etc.

I think it's something make sense to create those products. On the infographic, Titanium explains how it collaborates with Facebook to protect us. Why Facebook?You can read a report about Top 10 Most Visited Websites in 2011 and Top 10 Most Popular Mobile Websites in 2011. Both mentioned that Facebook was popular destination that people visited on the Internet. It was the number 1 social network and the second most visited on mobile phone after Google.

The title of the infographic is Staying Safe in Social Media. It does explain the types of threats that mostly found on Facebook and their definitions. It also does explain how Titanium collects spam messages, malicious URL and malware. But, unfortunately it doesn't give an answer about how to stay safe in Social Media. But, it is still helpful. Review

We have posted a test result that was held by an independent IT-Security Institute in January-February 2012. The institute tested various antivirus, Internet security and corporate solutions and one of them was Kaspersky Internet Security 2012. This Internet security program apparently got high result from three different categories.

The first category is protection. The ability of a computer security product to protect a computer from threats. The score was from 1-6 and Kaspersky reached score 6. The institute tested the program on 23 home users' computers.

On the first category,  it did three different tests. The first one was checking the ability of Kaspersky to protect the computers from malware threats, web threats and e-mail threats. The samples that were used 97, which average products could detect 95 % of samples. And Kaspersky Internet Security could pass this test.

The second test was checking its ability to detect malware that were found in the last 2-3 months (the institute found 229,183 malware). Most products could detect 97 percent of samples. But, Kaspersky's detection level reached  99 percent.

The third test was detection of 5,000 malware that widely spread and commonly found on the Internet. Kaspersky could detect all of them.

The second category is repair. The ability of a computer security product to detect, clean and repair malware on infected computer. And again, Kaspersky reached high scores. It could detect malware, cleaned them and repaired computer system and its components that were modified by the malwares.

The third category is usability. This test is to measure how fast Kaspersky gave the users warning about possible threats. The test result showed that it gave warning in 11 seconds every time it found possible threats. Amazingly, Kaspersky showed zero false alarm during this category test.

Top 10 Antivirus (January/February 2012)

An independent IT-Security Institute just released a test result of antivirus products in January-February 2012. This test involved 3,000 individual. And the result consisted from three different categories: protection, repair and usability.

Protection is when those antivirus products were installed on non-infected computers and the testers ran various attack scenarios that possibly happen on the Internet. Repair is when those antivirus products were installed on infected computers and the testers used to repair the computers' system, remove threats and recover data. While, usability tests how antivirus products performed their tasks such as gave warning messages, scanned the computer, gave false alarms, etc.

The result didn't rank antivirus products according their scores. So, we put them on different categories and rank them according to their scores. Next to each antivirus/security program, we put the score on parenthesis. The highest score is 6 and the lowest is 1. And since there were some products that had the same scores, we just arrange the list by the same order from the raw table from the test result.

This test result came from an independent IT security institute, AV-Test.org. AV-Test.Org usually releases its test results periodically. During the 4th quarter of 2010, they have tested 23 security products from internet security into free antivirus. They divided the test into three fields: Protection, Repair, Usability.

Protection covers static and dynamic malware detection, including real-world 0-Day attack testing. While, in Repair, they tested the system disinfection and rootkit removal in detail. The Usability testing includes the system slow-down caused by the tools and number of false positives. From maximum 18 points, a product needs to reach 12 points to receive a certification.

Kaspersky Lab Launched an Antivirus for BlackBerry and Android Phone

Security content and management solution company, Kaspersky Lab launched Kaspersky Mobile Security 9, an anti virus for smart phone, which can be used on Android and Black Berry. Sergey Nevstruyev, vice-president of Mobile Solutions Kaspersky Lab said that the new version can be used on Android and Black Berry, besides can be running on other platform such as Symbian and Windows Mobile.

 "Security is really needed on smart phone which can be used for online transactions, to communicate, and send messages. Mobile devices must be protected from various threats and the personal data won't fall into cyber criminals," he said on Wednesday, Feb 23th, 2011.

This product is designed to protect smart phone from malware and spam, block unwanted calls, hide files or certain contacts, find device location when it is missing, monitoring kids mobile activity, to make sure where they are.

 Sergey explained with unique protection technology, the users only need to push one button to hide particular contacts and contacts data, including incoming calls list, contact list and SMS also deactivate their calls. The contacts also can be hidden automatically after idle period had set or remotely by send SMS. The users also can filter unwanted calls and SMS by create white list and black list.

 This solution enables users to delete files or block them by send special SMS, and find location from missing device with GPS Find Tool help, or block the devices. Parental Control module allows parents to limit children's telephone contacts, such as deny premium numbers.

Users have control to numbers, which can contact their children. "Users realize that mobile threats today are something real and not just some science fiction. For now, smart phone becomes an interesting target for cyber criminals because the increasing of valuable data that are kept by the users," he added.

So, it’s useless if you install this program when you don’t have any Internet connection.

Microsoft SE has a simple interface with useful help section if you are a novice in the computer viruses and malicious programs world. So, you can protect your computer and learning about what is computer viruses, malware, spyware or adware as well.

Oh ya, don’t forget to uninstall your another antivirus programs. Because Microsoft SE will give you a warning that it could be risk your computer if you have two or three antivirus programs on your computer, due to the conflict among those software. But, personally I found no problem when I was installing this program and keep my other antivirus program. Of course, I was disable the scanner guard features.

Symantec claim their product Norton Anti virus 2010 is the anti virus product which can escalates effectiveness on provides protection toward computer’s security system threat. Symantec also officially announce that Norton has achieved best review from three independent test institutes.

These independent institutes which tested Norton are Dennis Technology Lab, AV-Comparatives.org, and AV-Test.org. From the three reports which released by those independent institutes, stated that Symantec’s technology can protects computers from computer’s security system Quorum threat and sophisticated heuristic.

According official statement from Symantec, Friday (6/11), Dennis Technology Lab stated that Norton Internet Security 2010 got perfect detection score and recorded as the only product with the perfect detection toward threat. Norton also considered can protect the system from brunt or infections. This conclusion came after Dennis Technology Lab tested the effectiveness of ten famous security products on anti-malware comparative test.

Norton Internet Security 2010 testing which did by AV-Test.org, noted that this product can detected 459.872 viruses samples and resulted detection score about 99,75 %. In that test, Symantec product tested on a computer which infected by 25 different viruses samples.

"All test included important benchmark but very different on security test. But, all came to same conclusion that Norton is the best deal on it class, " Regional Consumer Product Marketing Manager Symantec Asia Pacific, David Hall add.

"It’s show Norton product’s ability on giving protection to million threats with keeping the lowest false positive level and high level performance from all product that have tested, " he adds.

AV-Comparative.org said that Norton Antivirus 2010 got highest "Advanced + " level on protection. This reward gave to product which has the high detection level with lowest false positive level. This breakthrough technology now provided in Norton 360 4.0 beta version on Norton Internet Security 2010 and Norton Antivirus 2010.
